What Our Guests Say
"A great experience—we learned a lot!"
"Satoru & Akiko made us feel so welcome."
"Wonderful cooking class in Kyoto. Definitely recommend!"

I had a great experience with Satoru and Akiko. Even though this was a cooking class, it felt like home and it felt like my parents were teaching me. They are polite, humble and patient (as all Japanese are). The sushi making is very authentic and true to home. I felt full after eating and they provided a take home box with ice pack to keep the food fresh. Im forever grateful for this experience and what they taught me. One love from Jamaica 🇯🇲

Thank you as well for all of the instruction on how to make sushi. We will do this with our friends when we get back!.
A small suggestion…. I think it would be nice to offer a sake drink when your guests are eating the sushi. I think that would add a little more to the experience.
Otherwise, a good experience for Bryce and I.
Arigato.

After already taking a great sushi cooking class with Satoru and Akiko at Kyoto Green Cuisine, I had the great opportunity to cook with them a second time.
Just like the first time, the hospitality was overwhelming. I was warmly picked up directly at the train station. After a short walk to their house, we started with the new dishes: This time, I learned how to make a traditional soba soup from scratch and create delicious vegan sushi.
What was especially great was that we also made the mochis for dessert ourselves. To finish, I prepared my own matcha tea, which rounded off the experience perfectly.
It was another completely successful day in a very warm and family-like atmosphere. Thank you so much to Satoru and Akiko for another amazing experience! Anyone who wants to cook authentically in Kyoto and experience pure hospitality should definitely visit. Highly recommended!

"My experience with Satoru and Akiko was wonderful. Right from the start, I experienced Akiko's great hospitality when she picked me up at the station. After a short walk, we arrived at their home, where I met her husband, Satoru. While Satoru guided me through the cooking steps in Japanese, Akiko translated everything perfectly and answered all my questions. She was also genuinely interested in my journey through Japan and my interest in sushi. After about 1.5 hours, we had prepared three delicious types of sushi, which we then enjoyed together in a relaxed atmosphere while having a nice chat. At the end, I even received the recipe and a detailed guide. Akiko then walked me back to the station, and I went home feeling very happy and full. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for an authentic sushi experience in Kyoto!" (Review published on airkitchen)

My wife and I had a fantastic 2 hours learning how to make temaki, maki and sushi - we are complete beginners but the explanations were great and very easy to follow and we got to eat all the sushi at then end. We would both thoroughly recommend this as an experience and our hosts were absolutely delightful. (We only speak English)
we had a brilliant time learning to make sushi and would strongly recommend this activity to anyone. We are both beginners but with the expert help of Satoru and Akiko we made something edible and it even looked ok (ish!) (Review published on airkitchen)

The cooking class with Satoru and Akiko was one of the highlights of our trip! We learned -step by step - how to make two different types of ramen and also the best Gyozas we have had in Japan. We were able to do most things ourselves!! We were also given the recipes typed out to take home. It was a great half-day, because we had the great cooking lesson and then were able to spend some time in the beautiful area where they live: Arashiyama. Everything was easy, to get there and Akiko was waiting for us at the station. Very, very recommended!! (Review published on airkitchen)

Vegan Ramen and Gyoza Class
This was a jewel of an experience! Akiko and Satoru are welcoming, great hosts. They have a great knowledge of cooking and are excellent teachers. I think what I appreciated most about this class was understanding what is behind all the flavors that go into great ramen and gyoza. The food tasted home cooked, much better than what I tend to get in restaurants, it was delicious and well-presented. Akiko also took some great photos for me to share with my family. Thank you both for offering this vegan food experience—it's really unique and allows some of us who may have different diets to enjoy the best of Japan's amazing cooking traditions!

We had an amazing time getting detailed explanation on all the steps that go into making 3 amazing kinds of Sushi with Saturo & Akiko as very warm and welcoming hosts. Sadly we only had the lesson in the final days of our trip seeing as we would have loved to come back and to the Tempura & other lessons they offered. Cannot recommend this one enough!

Amazing cooking class with hospitable host!
Really enjoyed my cooking class with Satoru and Akiko! They were great with communication before, at pickup and during the class. They were both incredibly patient during the class and really took the time to explain each step in detail. I never felt rushed.
You can tell as you are cooking that they have a lot of experience making these dishes. In my case, sushi and tempura.
I felt that I had a great authentic experience cooking with locals. If I can even go further, it was like cooking with a friend. (Review published on airkitchen)

Authentic and Welcoming - A highlight!
This was the highlight of my most recent trip to Kyoto, as it was such a unique experience.
Welcomed into the home of a Tempura chef and his wife Satoru for a one on one cooking experience was just brilliant! Their hospitality was first class.
Step by step instructions with hands on experience we made (from scratch), a variety of delicious tempura vegetables (and a bonus treat of tempura Brie!), Miso soup and Onigiri.
Every mouthful was just so tasty and fresh.
Thank you so much to this wonderful couple for opening their home and sharing their knowledge on some traditional Japanese cooking. (Review published on airkitchen)

Merci🙏🏼🙏🏼👍👍😊😊🎅🏻

I visited Kyoto Green Cuisine to learn about making tempura. They speak English and provide a written recipe, so you can focus on the fun of making everything. My favorite part of the experience was plating everything, 12 different things, and - of course- eating it all.(Listed on Google map)

Lovely Japanese couple and amazing cooking experience! Satoru san and Akiko san are both so friendly and welcoming. They taught me so much about cooking rice, tempura and miso soup! They prepare so well in advance- the ingredients, the flow, the utensils, so that you can cook everything within a limited time. Of course the best part was just chatting with them and learning about Japanese culture, food, and people. Loved this experience!! Would highly recommend anyone looking for a local cooking experience in Kyoto near Arashiyama.(Listed on TripAdvisor)
